The past few days have been kinda iffy, it’s party causa the heat which drained me and left me feeling a bit… bleh. Though thankfully it has cooled off now and there has been rain.

I also got a sign stuck in my head that won’t go away (thanks fortnite festival) Die With A Smile. It is a good song but for some reason it’s triggering my sadness. Which is odd cause it didn’t when I actually listened to it but does when it goes around my head.

Today also ended up being a stressful thing cause I had a video call at 2. I went upstairs almost an hour before and entered the room as soon as I could (about 1:30) and I waited. 2pm hit and nothing. 2:15 hit and still nothing. On 2:30, when I was about to send a thing asking what was happening my phone rang instead.

They were a bit apologetic but I was quick to make it clear that if the roles were reversed and I was the one with issues they’d be quick to throw a fit and how wrong that was. She seemed ok though. We talked for awhile, I rambled how health had been and how things were messed up and she seemed sympathetic but who knows. I’ve got another dumb call in a month (which is annoying cause before it was only every three) but I made it clear uni is a priority and I’m cynical about the whole system.

Then I come down and mum finally heard back about the shoes so I had to run up the road to get them posted.pm which ugh. At least they’re gone and hopefully the refund comes back to her.

When I came back it was to the news that Labour, having learned nothing, suspended mps that stood up for their constituents against disability cuts. It’s further proof that Labour are now led by spiteful bullies. Because who hears the speech of Rachel Maskell, who bought up someone who was suicidal by about the cuts, and decide to punish her for it? It’s baffling and just shows how utterly awful they are. Honestly I dunno why anyone would stay in the party they’re proving to be truly awful at this point with no morals whatsoever other than what their paymasters tell them.

Bleh.

Im just gonna flop now cause tomorrow I have to go and pick up mums meds.

Today has been a long day and tomorrow will be as well, so just a couple of links for now:

Unsurprising but depressing and worth being aware of: https://www.amnesty.org.uk/anti-rights

And a rec for news on global warming and particularly the political/fossil fuel industry greed affair. Want to know just how readily your local representative bends over for the oil giants, check here: https://www.desmog.com/

Colossal Biosciences is planning to bring back the giant moa, a 3m (10 foot) tall flightless bird that went extinct around 600 years ago, shortly after humans arrived in New Zealand. Peter Jackson is one of the major investors. Considering the difficulties the Australians had when dealing with emus, which are only 2/3 the size of the great moa, they really need to consider that there was probably very good reason that the early New Zealanders wiped them out.

I wanted to hang out with L. yesterday but that wasn't possible. Hopefully it will be tomorrow night, especially since they have apparently got a little extra $$$ and rented a car I would love to ride in (when we get together it usually consists of us driving around while talking and listening to music). Anyway since I didn't have much to do I hung out on the Berkeley end of Telegraph Ave and had a yummy milkshake over at Super Duper but not much else was going on there apart from one wingnut throwing books at people.
I heard a rumor Ice is around here. There are a lot of immigrants in my bldg but I'm sure the fuck not gonna snitch on them.

I love YouTube Music — it's a great streaming system and gives me access to music that I could only have dreamed of when I was younger. But there's one thing about it — a small thing really, but still big enough that it bothers me: When you have a playlist, it should be a trivial thing for the software to add up the running times of all the songs in the playlist and give you a runtime for the playlist, and this works for shorter playlists, but once a playlist reaches 5 hours or more in length, the program gets lazy and anything over 5 hours is either "5+ hours" or "5 hours [XX] minutes," where [XX] isn't the actual number of minutes past 5 hours, instead the point after 5 hours where the software got lazy and decided to stop adding. Not a deal killer, not even that big of a deal, really, but it's annoying.

Today I'm just linking to the fandom bounty that has come my way over the last few months.

[archiveofourown.org profile] pezzax_podfics has again podficced bunch of my fics and I love her reading So Much, she has such a great way of conveying character voice and mounting tension where it's needed like in the last one linked here
Solar Couture (Extraordinary Attorney Woo, Geurami/Youngwoo)
Vernal (Wheel of Time, Aviendha)
Patience (Wheel of Time, Bair & Egwene)
Renascent (Wheel of Time, Rand/Mat)
Temptation (Seventeen, Jihoon/Soonyoung)

[personal profile] pushkin666  is dropping so much fic goodness for me I can't keep up but I am feeling loved. These are like just the ones I've managed to read so far...!
Enduring the Torture (SGA, McBeck, adorable teasing)
Where Your Eyes Land (The Lost Boys, Michael/Sam, slowburn siblingcest mmhmhmhmhmhmmmhhng?)
The World Can Wait (Stray Kids, Chan/Minho, submission as caretaking awwwww)
Held in the Quiet (H50, Danny/Steve, tender d/s dynamics that had me melting into a puddle)
The Song Between the Realms (Stray Kids, Chan/Felix, fae au with forbidden love and Disney musicals)

Years ago [personal profile] pushkin666, [personal profile] dreamersdare and I wrote a little P!ATD round-robin and then this year [personal profile] pushkin666 decided to expand it into a full on series that is full of yearning and hurt and one of the most romantic things I have ever read. I was clutching my heart the entire time. The language alone is worth the read even if you don't care about the fandom. The description of the magic and how it winds through nature and hearts is breathtaking. There is a happy OT4 ending but it's earned the hard way. Highly recced! Here is a link to the whole series: Dancing's Not a Crime

I got lovely things via the [community profile] seasonsofdrabbles too
all you by lovedays (Ateez, San & Wooyoung, sweet sofa cuddles)
You Like What You See? by [personal profile] facethestrange (Guardian RPF, Bai Yu/Zhu Yilong, sexual tensionnnnnnnnnnn)
Unspoken Care by [personal profile] pushkin666 (SGA, Radek/Rodney, care-taking and feels)

Finally, not fandom but extremely lovely and evocative, was this poem from [personal profile] trialia storm from a Salford bus stop

In conclusion: I am spoiled!

Had some Ceylon tea. I have now been ripped off three times in the past few days, first the PG&E business, then the thing with the watch, and yesterday when I was leaving L.'s house the damn bus driver charged me the transbay fare, which is THREE TIMES as much as the normal bus fare. Apparently bus drivers can fuck with that meter any old time they want to, and when I objected he LIED to me and said that was the normal fare. I looked it up on my cell phone and PROVED it wasn't. I argued with him and he bullshitted me some more and then ignored me. I actually reported this to the bus company, the guy who worked for the bus company was all "he's not supposed to do that".

I have to do laundry today, then after I have lunch I'm going to go over to L.'s house and pick up my tea. Last night I finished watching the last of the CSI DVDs my sister's husband was nice enough to give me the $$$ for, it was the first 8 seasons and I watched it over 2 months.

Some things never change...

Two days ago, Twice and Blackpink both had comebacks on the same day: Twice's "This is for" and Blackpink's "뛰어(JUMP)" (links go to the videos, so as not to spam your feed with two embedded videos).

Blackpink's song is a 1-song single, per YG's strategy of keeping Blinks starved for new music from Blackpink, while Twice's song is part of a 14-song album, keeping with JYP's strategy of giving Once as much music as they could possibly want from Twice. I prefer the JYP strategy — at first I was a bigger fan of Blackpink than of Twice, but eventually I got tired of waiting for new songs from Blackpink.

Two interesting things I noticed:

  • Twice Jeongyeon has had difficulty meeting the ridiculous weight standards imposed on K-pop idols (i.e. still not fat by any measure), so in recent comebacks Twice's stylists have started dressing everyone but Jeongyeon in midriff-baring tops. I don't know if this was done at the company's request or at Jeongyeon's, but they did it again this time.
  • Blackpink's song actually includes the English lyric "Are you not entertained?"

I've got an idea about the plotting one of my fics, but I'm not sure if the idea I've got right now is the right thing. So. . . if any of you have read my fic "Turning of the Year" — or if you feel like reading it right now — and you'd like to give your input on the future course of the story (at the risk of possibly getting spoiled), send me a message.

That damn watch broke right after I made my entry yesterday but it only cost me five dollars and I couldn't bring myself to take money away from cancer patients so I didn't return it. I went to a leather worker but he didn't make watchbands so I just decided fuck it, I'm going to be one of those people who just looks at their cell phone when they want to know what time it is. The concert last night was just great. My cell phone got screwed up but I had it fixed this morning and it didn't cost me anything. Then I went to the Temescal street fair with a friend, it was super fun! Went home and went swimming, also L. texted me to let me know to pick up some tea I ordered at their house tomorrow, unfortunately L. will be too busy with home stuff for me to hang around tomorrow but at least I got my tea.
